I've always admired the stairs designed by the former Polshek Partnership, now Ennead Architects (http://ennead.com/). They manage to have a sweet tectonic expression while still meeting all of the nuances of the building codes and accessibility guidelines. I've been to a small handful of Polshek buildings, and they all have cool stairs, including the Yerba Buena Center Novellus Theater in San Francisco, the Columbia Law School addition in New York City, and the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron, Ohio.
Pictured here are the stairs from the Yerba Buena Center Novellus Theater, in grays and yellows and reds; and the newer, curving stair from the William H. Neukom Building, a new academic building for Stanford's law school which opened in 2011.
